Key design criteria
- Most importantly, the valve must not leak!
- It should be easy to install
- The valve should be easy to repair, but we really want to install it and forget it!
- It must be easy to order, inventory and replenish
- It should cover a large variety of applications
- It should adapt to changing piping systems without having to be replaced or reinstalled
- It has to be a simple design
Today, if you are designing a piping system, looking to improve your process, or simply trying to replace a failed or worn valve, it takes more time and effort to find the "right" valve than to install it. Why is this? Why cant things be easier? Most people think that you have to have a "tailored" solution for each situation, that there is the perfect solution for each problem. What if there was a product that could solve more than 80% of "real" situations and problems? If so, what would it be? At EMC Controls, we decided to start over before starting up. Although we have several hundred years of valve experience among us, we decided to go out and ask customers, engineers and maintenance personnel what they really want. The answer was almost universal: KEEP IT SIMPLE. Here is what we found and what we have done about it.
